Transport in Cape Town

Cape Town boasts a range of mobility options that will suit a wide range of budgets for local and tourists alike. From getting around using the public transport offerings like buses and trains and the informal minibus taxis to hailing a metered taxi or Uber or even just getting onto a bicycle and using one of the many cycle lanes in and around the city.

Private Transport includes: -Non-motorised transport, private cars, meter taxi, Uber cabs.
Public Transport:- Bus Rapid Transit, Golden Arrow Bus Services, Minibus Taxi, Trains – which are a cheap form of public transport.

Scholar Transport:– Thousands of learners make their way to school and home each day using public transport, or transport operators. The City of Cape Town has committed itself in ensuring that scholars are transported safely and reliably and in keeping with the law. The City has produced publications such as Scholar Transport Guide and Scholar Transport Programme Bronchure to assist parents, schools and other stakeholders.

Scholar Transport Guide: The Scholar Transport Guide lists the requirements for parents, schools, operators and drivers who are paid to transport children to school and back.


Scholar Transport Programme Brochure: The quick and easy-to-read Scholar Transport Programme Brochure is available in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa. It provides tips to parents, drivers and schools on how to comply with the scholar transport regulations.
